The automotive industry， for which there are a great number of supporting
industries， involves roughly 10% of the total work force directly or
indirectly. Capital spending in the industry accounts for about 20%
of all spending by major manufacturing industries. A single motor vehicle
is made by various kinds of materials and is composed of several tens
of thousands of parts.
